Geoffrey Jacques is a poet, essayist, critic, and editor. His most recent books include the poetry collection Just for a Thrill (Wayne State University Press, 2005), and the critical study A Change in the Weather: Modernist Imagination, African American Imaginary (University of Massachusetts Press, 2009). He has written on a wide range of topics, ranging from political and labor issues to works on music, poetry, and the visual arts. His poetry, essays, articles, and reviews have appeared a wide range of journals and newspapers, including American Literature, Askew, Nka Journal of Contemporary African Art, New York Newsday, Hambone, the Amsterdam News, Ping Pong, ArtForum, Black Scholar, Cover: Arts New York, The Daily World, the City Sun, Killens Review of Arts and Letters, the People’s World, Tidal Basin Review, and Black Renaissance/Renaissance Noire.

Jacques has worked as a trade union organizer, as an editor and writer for the trade union press, and as an editor of a scholarly journal devoted to labor issues. He is a former associate editor of 1199 News and was the founding managing editor of New Labor Forum. His activism has included work in the peace and solidarity movements and in various electoral struggles. He currently teaches literature and humanities courses as an adjunct instructor at several colleges in Southern California.
