Public schools are a political battleground

Democratic socialists now make up more than 10% of Chicago’s city council, potentially wielding considerable influence. It will need to build alliances in order to enact their agenda and their even more ambitious goal of reforming city government.

Chicago’s 2019 municipal elections delivered significant victories for socialists and progressives. These wins come after years of work by unions and community groups - may provide a model for organizers in other cities looking for progressive change
